Tomkinson signed with the Force ahead of the 2024 spring tour in South Africa after spending two seasons playing with Welsh club Dragons RFC in the United Rugby Championship and European Rugby Challenge Cup. Tomkinson scored six tries in his 24 appearances for the Dragons. Prior to that, Otago product Tomkinson played 43 times for the Highlanders in Super Rugby from 2017 to 2022, scoring 14 tries. The midfielder, who played for New Zealand at Under-20 level in 2016, has also made 49 appearances at NPC level for Otago, scoring 17 tries.
