The Western Force are thrilled to announce the signing of exciting outside back Halley Derera for the 2025 Super Rugby Women’s season.

Derera is the latest addition to the Force’s 2025 squad following on from the off-season additions of Wallaroos Ashley Marsters, Cecilia Smith, Sera Naiqama and Allana Sikimeti.

The speedy outside back was part of the Force’s Japan Tour squad in October and November after heading west, having been part of Sydney University’s Jack Scott Cup title-winning side in August where she excelled at full-back.

The Melbourne-raised outside back previously spent time with the Melbourne Rebels (2024) and the ACT Brumbies (2022-2023), including scoring against the Force in the 2022 Super W season.

Derera, who has a netball and athletics background, also possesses overseas experience playing in England with Exeter Chiefs (2022-2024).

Force women’s head coach Dylan Parsons said: “Halley is someone who has earned a contract through hard work. She’s got a great attitude and work ethic.

“She came here for a chance during the Japan Tour and earned a spot on the tour squad. Then performed really well once we got over there.

“She’s a story about giving yourself a chance, backing yourself and making the most of it. She’s now been rewarded with a full contract.”

Derera picked up a syndesmosis injury during the Force’s Japan Tour but has recently completed her rehabilitation to re-integrate into full training in pre-season ahead of the side’s upcoming trial games to be announced soon.

The Force Super W season commences on Saturday 1 March against the ACT Brumbies at HBF Park.
