Five Western Force players have been selected in the Wallaroos squad to compete at the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup in England.

Wallaroos coach Jo Yapp has named a 32-player squad for the showpiece event with 15 players set to feature at a Rugby World Cup for the first time.

Force and Wallaroos veterans Ashley Marsters and Trilleen Pomare, who both recently passed 40 Test appearances for Australia, will each play at their third World Cup.

Force lock Michaela Leonard and midfielder Cecilia Smith are also called up along with Kalamunda scrum-half Sammy Wood for her maiden World Cup.

Wallaroos coach Jo Yapp said: "We are very proud of the squad and the journey the players and staff have been on for the past two years to get to this point.

"We have a very special group of people within this squad, diverse in culture and a range of ages and levels of experience in the game.

"A World Cup is the pinnacle event in sport and women’s rugby will showcase that in England later this month.

"We are ready to perform on the global stage and thank everyone who is supporting us on and off the field.”

The Rugby World Cup is set to be the biggest-ever women’s rugby event with over 300,000 tickets sold for the tournament.

The Wallaroos will play Samoa on August 23, followed by an all-important clash against USA on August 31 (AWST) and tournament hosts England on September 6.

Rugby Australia CEO Phil Waugh congratulated the players selected and added the squad had the full support of everyone in Australian rugby ahead of the event.

"Everyone at Rugby Australia would like to wish Jo and the Wallaroos all the very best at the Rugby World Cup in England," Waugh said.

"The event promises to be the biggest ever with over 300,000 tickets sold, ensuring women's rugby continues to go from strength-to-strength as a global game.

"Jo has done a tremendous job with the team and we will be cheering them on ahead of their first pool match against Samoa on August 23."

The Wallaroos will depart for the UK on August 11 and be based in Manchester ahead of their first pool match against Samoa on August 23 (7pm AWST).

They’ll then meet the USA in an all-important match on August 31 (2:30am AWST), followed by tournament hosts England on September 7 (12am AWST).
