The Western Force have locked in backline duo Georgia Cormick and Sheree Hume ahead of the women’s team’s Japan tour and the 2025 Super Rugby Women’s season.

The re-signing of the duo comes after one-time Wallaroo Cormick and Hume both debuted for the Force in the 2024 season.

Cormick made two Force appearances late in 2024 as an injury replacement. She also played alongside Hume at Otago Spirit in the 2024 FPC at scrum-half, scoring 48 points with two tries from seven games, ranking fifth overall in the league.

She made her Wallaroos debut in 2019 after good form with the Melbourne Rebels for whom she previously played 12 Super W games. The Dunedin-born, Melbourne-raised half-back spent most of the past two seasons in New Zealand playing for Matatu in Super Rugby Aupiki, where she won the 2023 title, along with Canterbury and Otago in the Farah Palmer Cup (FPC).

Force women’s head coach Dylan Parsons was thrilled to secure Cormick’s signature, suggesting she’s a player who will be in the Wallaroos selectors’ sights.

“Georgia is an exciting one, as she’s a former Wallaroo and with now a lot of New Zealand rugby experience,” he said.

“Having Sammy (Wood) here as well as the other Wallaroos nine, we believe those two will push each other really hard to get the best out of each other.

“Georgia has been away playing in New Zealand for the last couple of years, which has kept her off the radar for the Wallaroos. Now being signed back with a Super W franchise puts her back into the Wallaroos mix and potentially a World Cup which she’s got strong goals and ambitions for.

“We’re excited about her coming in and bringing a lot of that international experience. She’s got a very well-rounded skillset at nine and has a great kicking game as well. She’s a good communicator, good energizer and just a really good person as well.

“To be able to bring another internationally capped player back for the Force is just adding to that direction around consistency in our squad and cohesion in our group.”

Utility back Hume, 33, played six games and scored one try for the Force in 2024, and has re-committed fresh from scoring five tries in seven games for Otago Spirit in the FPC, where she mostly played at fly-half. Hume ranked in the top 10 in the FPC this season for offloads with 11.

The experienced Hume has tallied a club-record 77 caps for Otago and had originally joined the Force as a full-back yet played mostly in the midfield in 2024, making a big impact.

Parsons said: “Sheree showed a great attitude and added to our Maali DNA culture when we brought her in last season.

“She was one of our best effort area players. She’s someone who is really humble and wants others to get better.  She’s just a really genuine caring person as well. She was one of those players we really wanted to bring back.

“She played well again in the FPC for Otago. She brings a wealth of experience and a bit of utility value as well. She’s a smart rugby brain. She really adds a lot of value with different positions.”

The pair’s re-signing comes ahead of the women’s historic Japan tour with the selected squad to fly out of Perth in mid-October ahead of three games.
