The Western Force are excited to confirm Australian qualified fly-half Alex Harford has committed to the Club on a two-year contract.
Harford, 26, joined the Force on an injury cover contract midway through the 2025 Super Rugby Pacific season, debuting in Round 14 away to the Fijian Drua.
He also started at fly-half in last month's tour game against the British and Irish Lions in front of a Club record crowd at Optus Stadium.
The New Zealand-born playmaker is Australian qualified through his grandparents and has family in Perth.
He had previously spent time with Super Rugby Pacific club, the Blues, where he worked under Force coaching consultant Leon MacDonald and played for Auckland in the 2024 NPC season.
Prior to that he made 13 appearances for Canterbury in the NPC between 2021 and 2023, scoring one try and kicking 18 conversions and eight penalties for 68 points.
Force head coach Simon Cron said: “We’re constantly tracking Australian qualified players worldwide and what they’re doing, which is how we found Alex.
"Alex has good core skills and the ability to manage a game. In our game against the Drua he showed he can use his kicking game to put us in the right parts of the park and his passing game to attack space.
"We are really thrilled to be adding him to our squad and continuing to build squad depth for 2026 and beyond."
Harford said he’d relished his time in Perth with the Force which has aided his own development as a player, and was excited to extend his stay.
“I’m absolutely stoked to sign on, especially with how much I’ve enjoyed the last few months as an injury replacement,” Harford said.
“The opportunity to move to Perth and challenge myself has been really positive. The Force are building something really special here and I want to be a part of it.
“The depth in the squad is great. I’ve been really impressed with the coaching staff who are really good.
“The gameplan fits my style well and the way I want to play, so I’m thrilled to be staying around.”
