The Western Force today unveiled its Anzac jersey to be worn during Friday night’s Super Round clash with the Moana Pasifika at AAMI Park in Melbourne and next Friday against the Blues at HBF Park as part of the Armed Forces themed round.

Inspired by the Anzacs, the jersey features a soldier carrying an injured countryman on the battlefield to capture the spirit of mateship with the iconic commemorative red poppy.

The jersey was designed by renowned Western Australian military artist and former soldier Ian Coate.

Club stalwart Ian Prior said it was a privilege to honour the Anzacs in the forthcoming matches.

“It is a fantastic jersey, as it represents the respect, honour, courage, humility and mateship, which is so massive in both the military and sport,” Prior noted.

“My family have been represented in World War I and World War II and my sister is currently in the military. “The work the defence force has and continues to do is something that all Australians can be proud of.”

Coate’s explained the sentiment revolves around mateship and being there for your fellow man and woman, which draws strong parallels with rugby. The inspiration is centred around the friendships and bonds formed, rather than the battle itself.

Facilitated by Force partner and proudly Veteran-owned Spinifex Brewing Co, the WA company has played a crucial role in bringing the jersey to life, which prop Harrison Lloyd can’t wait to play in.

“It is a huge honour to wear this jersey designed by Ian Coate. We will be looking to do it justice when the time comes,” Lloyd said.

“With my Dad having served in the army and fighting in conflicts on behalf of our country, this is something I’m incredibly proud of and passionate about.”
