The Western Force are excited to reveal the playing squads for the upcoming North vs South Women’s Series with training starting at Perth Bayswater Rugby Union Club this week.
The three-game women’s pathway series, which starts on Sunday 19 October, is geared towards identifying and developing the top female talent across WA, providing meaningful and high-quality match opportunities with a view to transitioning into the Force’s 2026 Super Rugby Women’s side.
Selection has been based on club performances in the Fortescue Women’s Premier Grade which concluded last weekend, along with previous academy involvements and talent identification from Force and RugbyWA staff.
The seven Fortescue Women’s Premier Grade clubs have been split into two regions, with Wests Scarborough, Wanneroo and UWA representing the North and Palmyra, Southern Lions, Kalamunda and Cottesloe representing the South.
The 34-member South squad consists of nine players from each of Cottesloe and beaten semi-finalists Kalamunda, seven from Southern Lions and six from Palmyra.
Among the Lions representatives is centre Nicole Ross, who recently won the Sue Roberts Trophy for the best player in the 2025 Fortescue Women’s Premier Grade season.
Force squad member Samantha Treherne, who didn’t play Premier Grade rugby this season, has been included, along with UWA’s Atawhai Hotene and Wanneroo’s Palmyra product Ocean Tuhua, who have been shifted to South for positional purposes.
In the 36-member North squad, Women’s Premier Grade grand finalists Wanneroo and Wests Scarborough have dominated selection with 17 and 16 players respectively named, with two also from UWA.
Among the North group is Force fly-half and 2025 Rising Star Grace Freeman (foot) who is set to make her long-awaited return from a foot injury during the series. Cottesloe hooker Kirsti Kerr has been shifted to North for positional purposes.
Both groups will commence training on Tuesday at Perth Bayswater. Sessions will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays (6pm-8pm) for the first fortnight, before two weeks at Cottesloe, before returning to Perth Bayswater.
The coaching and support staff appointments were confirmed on Friday, with Dwayne Grace and George Scott acting as head coaches for North and South respectively.
The three games will be hosted by Southern Lions (Sunday 19 October 3pm), Cottesloe (Saturday 25 October, kick-off time TBC) and Wanneroo (Saturday 1 November, kick-off time TBC).
