Super Rugby Pacific has today launched the Legends XV, a fan-driven campaign to select the greatest players from 30 years of Super Rugby.
Fans will get the chance to settle some of Super Rugby’s great debates. Brumbies' Adam Ashley-Cooper or Waratahs' Adam Ashley-Cooper? Is there room for both George Smith and Richie McCaw in one XV? And how much should winning a title influence who earns a place among the all-time greats?
The campaign will run in two phases, kicking off in time to get fans excited for the start of the 2026 season on Friday February 13.
Phase one takes place at club level. Each of the current 11 Super Rugby Pacific clubs will shortlist players from their history for each position, 1 to 15. Fans will be asked to vote for who they think makes their club’s greatest-ever team, forming a Club Legends XV.
Once club voting is complete, the player who wins each position at their club will move on to the second phase of the campaign.
Phase two is the competition-wide vote, starting February 9. The players selected in each position from their Club Legends XV will go head-to-head each week, with fans determining the greatest player in that position across the entire 30-year history of Super Rugby.
To ensure the full history of Super Rugby is represented, one wildcard player per position will also be included from teams that are no longer part of the competition.
One position will be voted on each week, with weekly contenders announced on a Monday and results revealed on Sunday.
The full Legends XV will be confirmed in early June, establishing the definitive, fan-voted team celebrating 30 Years of Super Rugby.
“For 30 years, Super Rugby has produced some of the most iconic players and moments in world rugby,” said Jack Mesley, CEO of Super Rugby Pacific.
“The Legends XV gives fans a genuine voice in recognising the players who have shaped the competition over the past three decades. We can’t wait to see who is chosen at club level, and then see these epic players go up against each other for a place in the ultimate Super Rugby Legends XV. Whether you’re new to Super Rugby Pacific, or have been following from the beginning, we hope this gives fans from across the world the opportunity to celebrate all these players and how the competition has grown."
Force fans will be contacted via email and can vote through the Club's social media channels.
