The Western Force and Rugby Australia are excited to announce a long-term deal for exciting teenage talent Wallace Charlie.

Charlie has put pen to paper on a deal with Rugby Australia where he’ll play on the Aussie Sevens circuit in 2026, before joining the Force’s Super Rugby Pacific squad for the 2027 and 2028 seasons.

The 19-year-old speedy outside back burst on to the global rugby scene earlier this year when he debuted for Australia at the HSBC SVNS World Championship in Los Angeles in May.

Prior to that, in 2024 the Cairns product was crowned MVP at the Global Youth Sevens tournament in Auckland.

Charlie joined the Fortescue Academy in late 2024 and impressed with his blistering pace and evasiveness, making an eye-catching cameo in the Force’s Super Rugby Pacific squad’s final internal game in February.

He was a standout during the recent Super Rugby Men’s U19s for the Force, including scoring a hat-trick in the Round 3 game against the Queensland Reds.

Charlie played every minute of the three Force U19s games, recording a league-best 467 carry metres from 41 ball carries with 18 defenders beaten. He also had a league-best 169 kick return carry metres from the three games.

Force head coach Simon Cron said: “Wallace is an exciting prospect who has come out of our Academy.

“He’s an amazing talent. He’s got great feet, speed, skill and a natural feel for the game.

“He’s been presented with an opportunity to go to the Australia Sevens, which will now be part of his pathway development.”

Charlie was thrilled about what’s to come next, with the 2026 HSBC SVNS circuit due to run from November to June, before linking up with the Force again.

He said: “Obviously it’s an honour and privilege to wear the gold jersey, hopefully I can do it again to represent my family and people of the Torres Strait.

“I was only 18 when I first went over to LA which was a surreal experience, especially being an Indigenous guy, with Maurice Longbottom in the squad who is someone I look up to. I’m really excited to rip in with them for the next circuit.

“With a long-term view, I’ll definitely better my skills under the coaching of Liam Barry and Frase (Shannon Fraser) and come back to the Force and continue to grow and expand on how I play my rugby.”
