The Western Force have today confirmed the Club’s 32-player squad for the upcoming Super Rugby Women’s season with two more additions rounding out the group.

Former Wallaroo and Australia Sevens outside back Samantha Treherne has signed on for the upcoming season, along with homegrown back-rower Taylor Waterson who returns to the Force after being part of the 2018 and 2019 squads.

Treherne, 31, has clocked up 14 international caps for the Wallaroos between 2017 and 2019, while she spent last season with the Melbourne Rebels in Super W. She is a versatile outside back, primarily suited to play as a winger or full-back.

Waterson re-joins the Force after playing all eight games in the 2018 and 2019 seasons, scoring a try in season one against the Queensland Reds. She’s spent the past few years in New Zealand, including playing for Manawatu Cyclones in the Farah Palmer Cup.

Force 2025 Super Rugby Memberships are on sale NOW for seven home games + Super W games from $170 per adult, while there’s FREE Junior Force Memberships for one child under 15 with a paying adult.

The duo are the final additions to the 2025 Force squad, which has already been bolstered by the signings of Wallaroos Ashley Marsters, Cecilia Smith, Allana Sikimeti and Sera Naiqama.

Earlier this week, the Force confirmed that Japanese pair Mio Yamanaka and Megumi Takagi will join the group following this Sunday's Japan Women’s League One Grand Final too.

That's in addition to 2024 Rebecca Clough medalist Samantha Wood, along with Wallaroos capped returnees Trilleen Pomare, Michaela Leonard, Hera-Barb Malcolm Heke and Alapeta Ngauamo.

Force head coach Dylan Parsons said: “We are really excited by the squad that’s been put together by the club this year.

"Retaining the performing players from last season and recruiting the best talent in Australia in identified positions was the goal and we believe we have been able to achieve this.”

On the new additions, Parsons was excited about what Treherne and Waterson can both bring to the side.

Parsons said: “Sam is capped in both 15s and sevens rugby internationally, so she brings quality. She’s experienced, she’s quick, has good rugby smarts and is skilful. She’s come out of professional programs, been in the Aussie Sevens, so she’s fit in well.

“Taylor has returned to Perth after playing in New Zealand and completing her studies. We gave her a train and trial opportunity and she has really impressed in her attitude and commitment to showing what she can do in a high performance environment. We see a heap of potential in how good she can be.”

The Force Super W season commences on Saturday 1 March against the ACT Brumbies at HBF Park.

Prior to that, the side will play three pre-season trial games against Rugby Victoria (Sunday 9 Feb at Wanneroo Rugby Club), the Queensland Reds (Saturday 15 February at Ballymore) and the NSW Waratahs (Saturday 22 February at UWA Sports Park).
