Hotene has a touch rugby background, previously representing New Zealand (Touch Blacks) in the 2019 World Cup. She was born in New Zealand, played in the Farah Palmer Cup with Otago Spirit from 2022 to 2024, clocking up 13 appearances, before moving to Perth where she played for UWA in the 2025 Fortescue Premier Grade season. Hotene followed up a strong season with UWA by linking up with the Force for October’s North vs South Women’s Series, going on to earn a contract for the 2026 Super W campaign.
