The Western Force have further bolstered their support staff with the addition of Logan Surridge from the Crusaders as the club’s new Head of Applied Performance Science.

Surridge joins the Force after spending the past three years with the Crusaders, where he helped the side achieve success as the 2021 Super Rugby Aotearoa champions and the 2022 and 2023 Super Rugby Pacific champions.

He was the Crusaders’ lead performance scientist from 2020 to 2023, after holding various regional lead/consultant roles in strength and conditioning and sport science prior to this.

Surridge will be a key member of the Force’s Super Rugby performance and medical support staff. He will also lead the growth and development of the sports science department from pathways to professional.

Force Head of Performance Simon Thomas said: “Logan brings a wealth of experience from within a world class program and culture at the Crusaders, where he held a similar role.

“The main components of the role are collecting and presenting performance data to individualise player physical development and team training targets on the field for both performance and injury risk reduction.

“The role is about helping the players achieve their own goals and be at their best when it’s needed."

Surridge, who linked up with the Force in mid-November to join the club’s pre-season, said he was drawn to a new challenge with a group determined to become the best version of themselves as they aspire for success.

“I’m attracted to the ambition of the Force project, driving high standards, striving to become successful and contend for trophies,” Surridge said.

“At the Crusaders, I’ve experienced what it feels like to win and be part of a successful culture and organization. The challenge of trying to help build a winning culture in a new organization excites me and I feel like I’m ready to contribute to that.

“I’m also excited about working with the playing group who I know have aspirations to become the best versions of themselves and I’m driven to assist the players in that journey.”

The Force open their 2024 Super Rugby Pacific season on Friday 23 February 7pm WST against the Hurricanes at HBF Park.
